Design Manager

We are an international design studio located near Oxford Circus, seeking a talented Design Manager to join our team. As the Design Manager, you will play a crucial role in coordinating all design-related aspects of our projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure seamless communication and transfer of information between the multi-disciplinary teams involved. By having a clear understanding of project briefs, programs, and scopes, you will mitigate risks and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and Lead Design Efforts: Lead the production of technical drawings and plans, bringing together architects, designers, structural and service engineers, as well as specialist designers and BIM technicians. Your role is pivotal in creating coordinated designs that integrate all disciplines effectively.
  2. Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Review designs to ensure they meet regulatory and legislative requirements. Conduct technical and operational risk assessments, providing advice on risks, opportunities, and potential hazards. Stay updated on relevant regulations, codes, and legislation.
  3. Organize and Chair Design Coordination Meetings: Schedule and lead design coordination meetings with the design team, delivery team, and subcontractors. Generate Design Risk Assessments and ensure the presence of the appropriate stakeholders during meetings. Record and follow up on action items to ensure completion.
  4. Maintain Knowledge and Application of Standards: Keep a clear understanding of planning applications, building regulations, codes of practice, and environmental health and safety regulations. Apply this knowledge to each project effectively.
  5. Information Management: Produce an Information Required Schedule aligned with the Project Programme. Ensure technical drawings and designs are produced on time, of high quality, and easily understandable. Facilitate easy access to designs for relevant team members when needed.
  6. On-Site and Office Presence: Allocate a reasonable amount of time for on-site visits and office work to oversee project progress effectively.
  7. Tendering Process and Subcontractor Selection: Provide input in the tendering process when bidding for new work. Contribute to the selection of specialist subcontractors or other organizations to help complete project tasks.
  8. Material Selection: Qualify the selection of materials specified by the designer based on current legislation and Health & Safety requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant experience in an architectural or project management background.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in various workplace developments of different scales.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the sequence of processes and procedures for pre-construction and construction stages.
